PISGAH, Md. (WUSA) -- An investigation is underway into a fatal house fire that broke out in Charles County Tuesday night.
Fire officials confirm someone inside the home located in the 5300 block of Stuckey Road reported a fire around 10:30 p.m. Charles County firefighters responded to the scene and began to work to put out the flames which engulfed the home. Fire crews were able to extinguish the flames within approximately 30 minutes to an hour.
Firefighters say three or four people were able to escape the burning building, however the body of one victim has been discovered. The deceased is presumed to be an elderly woman, however, a positive identification has not yet been made.
One firefighter was injured and taken to the Medstar Burn Center. He has since been treated for first and second degree burns and released.
The Fire Marshall is on the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
