WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Outgoing Secretary of Transportation Ray Lahood announced Monday the availability of $2 billion for public transit badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

The funding is part of President Obama's new Disaster Relief Appropriations Act.

The money will be used for repairs and reimbursement in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and other affected areas where equipment was damaged from Sandy.
