WASHINGTON (WUSA) --- A cookie competitionat The Ritz-Carltonon 22nd St.has proven The First Lady Michelle Obama to be the reigning champ.

Her triple chocolate chip cookies were a favorite among the guests in the lobby who chose her cookiesabove acookie recipe by Ann Romney. Duringthe presidential election season 2012, the hotelheld a"bakeoff."

"Interestinglyenough, the Obama cookie won," said Elizabeth Mullins, VP andAreaGeneral Manager ofThe Ritz-Carlton, Washington, DC.

The First Lady said she and her family eat healthy food but these cookies are a perfect way to "splurge."

Obama's cookies have been eaten and approved by Nelson Paz, Executive Pastry Chef of the Ritz-Carlton, Washington, DC.

"I love it," Paz said as he takes anotherbite of a cookie straight from the oven. The cookie contains three types of chocolate and bits of walnuts.

Culinary students and graduates fromDC Central Kitchenare bakingover 5,000 cookies for hotel guests on Inauguration Day.

On Monday, January, 21, 2013, guests of the Ritz-Carlton will be greeted with a tin of cookies, a special amenity to each hotel room.

A donation will be made to DC Central Kitchen, on behalf of Ritz Carlton guests. The Ritz-Carlton says the donation will be about $5,000.

Michelle Obama's White and Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies

Makes 5 Dozen Cookies
Prep 15 Minutes
Bake 375 degrees for 12 minutes per batch

2 ¼ cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 stick Crisco butter-flavored solid shortening
¾ cup granulated sugar
¾ packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 cup each- white chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, mint chocolate chips (or Andes mint pieces)
2 cups walnuts

Heat oven to 375 degrees. In small bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda and salt. In large bowl with an electric mixer, cream butter, vegetable shortening, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract.
Add eggs one at a time beating well after each addition. On low speed, beat in flour mixture. By hand stir in white and milk chocolate chips, mint chips and walnuts.
Drop rounded tablespoons onto un-greased baking sheets. Bake at 375 for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes: remove to wire racks to cool completely.
