DUMFRIES, Va. (WUSA) -- A Prince William County police spokesperson says a woman was shot at the Cedar Knoll Trailer Park in Dumfries shortly before 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

He says someone called police to report gunshots heard from a house in the 17600 block of Washington Street.

Officers arrived to find a woman with gunshot wounds to her upper body. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman at the scene claims the victim's boyfriend came out of the home screaming his girlfriend had been shot. She says her husband went to help the man inside the home, where he attempted CPR with the help of an emergency dispatcher.

A neighbor we spoke to also says she heard the gunshots, which "sounded like firecrackers going off."

Police continue to investigate the shooting.
