LUTZ, Fla. (WTSP) - Surveillance video leads to an arrest in Tuesday's early morning shooting at a Walmart in Lutz.
Pasco County deputies got several tips after they released surveillance video from the Walmart. One tip gave information that the suspect was staying at a hotel in the area of state road 54 and I-75.
That's where detectives arrested 25-year-old Daniel Quinnell. He's in the Land O'Lakes jail on aggravated battery charges. Pasco detectives are also investigating this as a possible hate crime
In the surveillance video you see the victim and his girlfriend walking up to the front entrance of the store, behind them, the suspect. Deputies say he asks the victim if he's Muslim, the victim says no, he was born in the US.
We're told the suspect then shouts racial slurs, apparently upset this darker skinned man is walking along with a white woman.
The suspect then pulls out a high powered pellet gun and opens fire. He then continues to fire and then runs away.
The victim was taken to the hospital with wounds to his head and neck. He's out of the hospital, but still has two pellets lodged in his face and neck. He will have those surgically removed next week.
