Cookeville, TN (Sports Network) - M. J. Rhett scored 15 points to help guide the Tennessee State Tigers to a 72-66 win over the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles in Ohio Valley Conference play at the Eblen Center.
Rhett recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds for the Tigers (8-7, 2-0 OVC). Patrick Miller scored a team-high 21 points to go with five assists. Jordan Cyphers scored 14 points and Deshawn Dockery scored 10 points as the Tigers win three straight games for a second time this season.
For the Golden Eagles (6-8, 0-2), Jeremiah Samarrippas scored a game-high 22 points. Lanerryl Johnson scored 21 points off the bench while Jud Dillard scored 13 points in Tennessee Tech's fourth straight loss.
Despite Tennessee State jumping out to an early 4-0 lead during the first five minutes of play, Tennessee Tech would fight back to a 31-29 advantage at the break.
The Tigers were 12-of-20 from the floor including 2-of-4 from long range, while holding the Golden Eagles to a mere 4-of-14 from beyond the arc in the second half.
Tennessee State made 22-of-41 from the floor including 5-of-12 from long range. Tennessee Tech was a mere 9-of-26 from 3-point range on the night.
