Rosemont, IL (Sports Network) - Aaron Cosby's career-high 24 points led the Seton Hall Pirates to a 73-72 road victory over the DePaul Blue Demons at Allstate Arena in their Big East Conference opener.
A pair of Seton Hall (12-2, 1-0 Big East) forwards registered double-doubles with Brandon Mobley tallying 16 points and 10 rebounds while Eugene Teague finished with 11 points and 15 boards. Fuquan Edwin scored 11 points and dished out five assists.
DePaul (9-5, 0-1) was led by Jamee Crockett's 16 points and five steals. Brandon Young netted 15 points while Durrell McDonald shot 5-of-6 from the floor for 12 points. Charles McKinney had 10 points.
Seton Hall led 40-33 at halftime after shooting 56 percent from the field. The advantage could have been greater, but 12 first half turnovers hurt the Pirates.
Trailing by one point late in the game, Edwin got himself free on an inbounds play and scored to put the Pirates ahead. After a timeout, DePaul had two opportunities to win the game, however it lost after being unable to get a shot to fall in the closing seconds.
DePaul fell to 1-7 in Big East openers since joining the conference.
