Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Leonard Washington scored a game-high 19 points and came up big in the final minute as the Wyoming Cowboys remained undefeated by downing the SMU Mustangs, 59-56, in non-conference action at Moody Coliseum.
Washington also added 11 rebounds, two blocks, and two steals for Wyoming (13-0), while Larry Nance, Jr. and Josh Adams netted 12 and 11 points, respectively. The Cowboys are one of just four unbeatens left in the nation along with Duke, Michigan, and Arizona.
For SMU (10-5), Nick Russell scored 17 points, Ryan Manuel put up 15 points, and Cannen Cunningham logged 14 points and 11 rebounds.
SMU held a slight 29-27 advantage at intermission despite outshooting Wyoming from the field, 50 percent to 38.1 percent. The Cowboys kept the game close by shooting 3-of-9 from 3-point range and 8-of-12 from the foul line.
In a back-and-forth second half, the Mustangs tied the game, 56-56, on a Manuel layup with a minute remaining, but those would be their final points. Washington hit a free throw with 24 seconds left to give Wyoming the lead, and he put an exclamation point in the victory with a steal and dunk on the next possession.
SMU was held without a 3-pointer on five attempts in the contest.
