WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Prove that you are STD-free by "safe-bumping."
That's what a new phone app is being called that allows users to share their STD-free status with their partner by "bumping" phones together.
"If you happen to be out at a bar or a fraternity house or wherever, and you meet someone, you can then bump phones and exchange contact information and STD status," Dr. Michael Nusbaum, the developer of the new app called MedXCom told ABC news.
The app's goal is to encourage singles to see their doctor for regular STD checks. Those who screen negative can have their physician document their STD-free status on the app. Users can then share the information with whomever they choose.
According to the CDC, each year nearly 19 million people are infected with a sexually transmitted disease (STD), almost half are people between the ages of 15 to 24.
