Riverside, CA (Sports Network) - Michael Lyons finished with 22 points and six rebounds as the Air Force Falcons defeated the UC Riverside Highlanders, 61-53, in a non-conference tilt at SRC Arena.
Kyle Green provided a spark off the bench for Air Force (8-2) with 11 points in 17 minutes and Taylor Broekhuis added 10 points. The win was the second in a row for the Falcons.
Chris Patton paced UC Riverside (3-9) with 14 points and seven rebounds. Robert Smith contributed 11 points as the Highlanders lost for the third time in four outings.
The Falcons managed to take a 30-28 lead into the intermission despite shooting 35.7 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes. UC Riverside converted 50 percent from the floor including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc, but still trailed at the break due after attempts eight less field goals in the first half.
Air Force went on a late 16-7 run to build an insurmountable 60-46 lead with just 3:17 remaining. The Highlanders cooled off and made only 9-of-30 field goal attempts in the second half.
Despite the loss, UC Riverside held 36-27 advantage in the rebounding battle. The Falcons produced 19 points off of the Highlanders' 18 turnovers.
