HILLCREST HEIGHTS, Md. (WUSA) -- Firefighters in Prince George's County battled a blaze at a strip shopping center on the 3200 block of Branch Avenue early Saturday.

It was a cold and windy night when the call came in at 4 a.m. Chief Marc Bashoor says dozens of firefighters worked the fire, with thirty others on standby for a second alarm. No one was inside at the time. Bashoor tells 9 News the older condition of the building and the windy weather made flames more difficult to extinguish. The building was evacuated building for safety of the crews. The fire was contained within two and a half hours, with no injuries to report.

According to authorities, the roof of the building partially collapsed as a result of the flames. The cause has yet to be determined.
