COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WUSA) - Police have arrested a man in connection with a pipe bomb incident early Friday that may be linked to similar incidents, according to the Prince George's County Police Department.
John Frank Jenkins was arrested and charged with the 'manufacture or possession of a destructive device,' police said.
9News' Scott Broom reports that at least one bomb was found and destroyed Friday after a pre-dawn raid on a house in the 5000 block of Edgewood Road. The Prince George's county bomb squad discovered a pipe bomb in a van after targeting the house for investigation in the wake of another bombing earlier this week.
The residents were briefly evacuated while bomb technicians used a robot to neutralize the device.
At approximately 10:30 am a search warrant was executed on a house in the 9000 block of Rhode Island Avenue, intersection of Blackfoot Place, by the bomb squad and members of law enforcement.
As a result of the criminal investigation John Frank Jenkins, resident of the Rhode Island Ave address, was arrested and has been charged with two felony counts of "Manufacture or possession of a destructive device" which carries a maximum penalty of 25 Years and/or a fine of $250,000.
Because the investigation is ongoing, additional charges are possible. No additional hazardous devices were discovered at the home. An adult female occupant was also arrested on an unrelated open warrant, police said.
