WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Patrick Moran, the son of Rep. Jim Moran, was sentenced in a D.C. court after pleading guilty to simple assault, according to court records.
Moran was sentenced to 90 days with 90 days suspended. He will have to do community service and complete a domestic violence intervention program.
In an emailed statement, Patrick Moran's girlfriend said "This was an accident that has been blown out of proportion. The statements in the police report are inaccurate."
She added, "Pat and I were arguing, one of my high heels gave out, and I fell into the side of a trashcan. On impact, I fractured my nose. False conclusions were made as a result. I hope our privacy will be respected."
Earlier this year, Patrick Moran was stripped of his duties on the Moran campaign after undercover video surfaced of him initially trying to dissuade a man from committing voter fraud then offering suggestions on how to skirt Virginia's voter ID law.
