COLORADO SPRINGS (KUSA) - Colorado Springs police say they have located and notified the parents of baby girl found abandoned Wednesday. Police are not saying if arrests will be made.

The baby girl was found alive Wednesday afternoon at the Shadow Ridge Grove Apartments near the intersection of Garden of the Gods Road and North Nevada Avenue.

Police say it's not clear if the baby was left inside a Dumpster at the complex or near it.

A Shadow Ridge resident, who held the baby at one point, said the child was resiliant.

"She wasn't crying. I don't even think she had energy to cry," Lauren Miller said. "She would fall asleep and I would just rock her to kind of wake her up. I was afraid if she fell asleep something would happen."

Police say the infant is less than one-month-old and was found after a resident at the complex called 911.

"There's a lot of animals who live around here," Miller said. "Had it been a couple hours, who knows what could have happened."

The baby was taken to Memorial Central Hospital where she is in stable condition.

Colorado Springs Police are reminding people of the Colorado Safe Haven Law, which allows parents to hand their newborns off to an employee at any hospital or fire department without any questions asked. As long as the child is unharmed, the parents will not be prosecuted.
