Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Kellen Thornton scored 20 points to lead the Tennessee State Tigers to a victory over the visiting Drexel Dragons, 76-66, at the Gentry Center.

Tennessee State's (4-5) leading scorer Robert Covington also had a big night, scoring 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting while bringing down a team-high seven rebounds. Jordan Cyphers chipped in 15 points off the bench. Michael Green also reached double figures off the bench with 11 points and Patrick Miller scored 10.

Damion Lee scored 18 to lead the Dragons (2-6), who have now lost consecutive games after each win this season. Frantz Massenat netted 15 points with seven assists, and Daryl McCoy contributed his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 boards.

Drexel kept the game close by outrebounding Tennessee State 20-11 in the first half, but the Dragons struggled shooting (38.7 percent) and trailed 36-30 at intermission. The Tigers took care of the ball in the opening stanza, turning the ball over just twice.

The Dragons went on two separate 7-0 runs early in the second half and took the lead, but Tennessee State was able to shoot 47.8 percent from the field and outscored Drexel 17-4 from the free throw line to earn he win.

Tennessee State has now won three consecutive games after opening the season 1-5.
