TRIANGLE, Va. (WUSA) -- Prince William County police say a woman who was thought to be a victim during an armed robbery is actually an accomplice.
Sandra Lynn McKelvey, 23, was shot when an armed man approached the car she was in.
Investigations reveal that McKelvey and a 42-year-old male got a ride from a known female acquaintance to met up with an apparent "unknown man" in the 18200 block of Graham Ct.
The man approached the car and demanded money from the 42-year-old victim at gunpoint. The victim handed over an undisclosed about of cash before he was assaulted with the gun, police say.
During the assault the gun went off striking McKelvey in the upper body. She was then flown to an area hospital and the male victim was transported by ground both with non life-threatening injuries, police say.
Prince William County police discovered during the investigation that McKelvey knew the gunman and arranged the meeting on Graham Ct.
The male victim and driver were not involved in arrangement police say. Officials are still trying to identify the shooter who is described as a black male, between 20 to 25 years of age, 5'7", 140 pounds, think build with short black hair, and was last seen wearing a black beanie style hat and a black jacket with two red horizontal stripes.
McKelvey was charged with robbery and malicious wounding and is being held without bond.
