New York, NY (Sports Network) - Sporting Kansas City's Jimmy Nielsen was namedthe MLS Goalkeeper of the Year on Wednesday after putting together one of thebest seasons for a goalkeeper in recent MLS history.

The Dane's third season in MLS saw him lead the league in shutouts and winswhile he held the longest shutout streak of the season as well, which spanned414 minutes.

Nielsen was one of two goalkeepers to allow less than one goal per game (0.79)this season while posting one of the top save percentages in the league at74.2 percent.

Finishing a distant second in the voting was Chivas USA's Dan Kennedy, whileMichael Gspurning of Seattle Sounders FC was third.
