WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Anacostia will replace Wilson in the Turkey Bowl on Thursday after an investigation by DC Public Schools (DCPS) determined that an ineligible Wilson player participated in games this season.
"Within the last 48 hours, it was determined that this player is in fact a non-resident and therefore ineligible to play football for Wilson. After reviewing tapes of games, Wilson High School administration and coaches determined this player played in two league games," said DCPS in a statement released on Sunday.
The statement goes on to explain that Wilson had to forfeit the two games in which the player participated, making the Tigers ineligible for the playoffs.
Anacostia (6-5) will play Dunbar in the Turkey Bowl, scheduled for Thanksgiving day at Eastern Senior High School.
"While DCPS regrets any confusion or frustration this may cause, it is important to ensure the integrity and fairness of the game," continued the DCPS statement.
