College Station, TX (Sports Network) - Elston Turner led all scorers with a career-high 26 points, leading the Texas A&M Aggies to an 83-65 victory over the Troy Trojans at Reed Arena.
Turner was 9-of-14 from the floor overall, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. The Aggies (2-0) also received strong performances by Fabyon Harris and Ray Turner, who turned in 14 points apiece, while Alex Caruso came off the bench to tally 13.
Hunter Williams led the way for Troy (1-1) with 15 points and five assists in defeat. Ray Chambers chipped in with 10 points, while Emil Jones, Deonata Jethroe and Tevin Calhoun finished with eight points each.
Texas A&M jumped out to a huge first-half lead, thanks to a stellar 57.1 percent effort from the floor (16-of-28) over the first 20 minutes, taking a 45-29 lead at the break.
The Trojans shot better in the second half from the field (.467), but A&M was able to keep serve with a .481 effort.
Overall, Texas A&M converted an impressive 52.7 percent from the floor in the win, held a 35-22 advantage in rebounding, outscored the Trojans in the paint (30-18) and held an 18-4 advantage in points at the free-throw line.
