Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Steve Zack scored a game-high 19 points, leading four starters in double figures, as the La Salle Explorers slipped by the Delaware Blue Hens, 73-66, in season-opening action at Tom Gola Arena.
Jerrell Wright recorded a double-double for the Explorers (1-0) with 14 points and a team-best 10 rebounds, followed by Tyreek Duren and Sam Mills with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Blue Hens (0-1) were paced by Jarvis Threatt with 17 points and Devon Saddler with 14, while Jamelle Hagins delivered 12 points, 14 rebounds and five blocked shots in the setback.
Delaware managed to knock down 48.3 percent from the field in the first half, mostly because the team only took one shot from three-point range, and yet it still trailed at the break, 38-32.
In the second half the Hens converted just 1-of-7 on the perimeter, preventing them from making a serious run.
La Salle turned the ball over just seven times and outscored the visitors at the free-throw line, 23-9.
