ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA) - Ret. Captain Pat Horan was shot in the head while on duty in Baghdad, Iraq on July 7, 2007. He suffered a traumatic left brain injury that destroyed his language center and left him with other disabilities.

His family was told he may never walk or talk again. Five years later, through his own hard work and determination, Pat is not only walking and talking, but riding in the Army Ten Miler for the 3rd year straight.

He's become an inspiration to hundreds of family members and a growing list of friends who take part in the Army Ten Miler and the Horan's Run For Pat. Team Pat 2012 consisted of about 100 runners along with dozens of supporters cheering on our hero, Pat Horan.

Pat is my brother-in-law.
