ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA) -- An arrest has been made after some kind of flammable substance was thrown into an Arlington mall, police said.
After three hours of searching the nearby area, police located and took custody of the male suspect, who is now being questioned by the FBI, ATF and police. The mall re-opened.
Earlier on Thursday, the Ballston Common Mall was closed as Arlington County Police officers investigated the report of someone throwing a Molotov cocktail.
A 9News crew caught up with shoppers at the scene who said they smelled gasoline.
A bomb technician examined the backpack belonging to the suspect. Police later found three more similar devices inside the mall.
Police are calling the incident a bomb scare. No motive is known at this time.
The entire incident was captured on mall security video.
As of 11 p.m. Thursday, the suspect's identity has not been released.
