LEESBURG, VA, (WUSA) --- Republican presidential candidate brought his campaign here Wednesday night, promising a crowd of an estimated eight thousand supporters "We will win Virginia!"
His appearance in Leesburg with only 20 days remaining in the campaign demonstrates how important the swing state of Virginia has become to his election effort.
Recent polls have shown Romney gains, largely coming after his win in the first presidential debate two weeks ago. Prior to that debate, polls were trending strongly in favor of President Obama, but the state is now seen by many as back in play.
One unusual moment came before Romney appeared on the state when country singer Andy Griggs told the crowd that he knew what God Romney prays to.
When asked by 9News Now for the campaign's reaction to those remarks, the Romney campaign responded " The singer was speaking for himself and we obviously don't agree with his comments."
