WALDORF, Md. (WUSA) -- Charles County authorities say that an alert plumber helped catch a burglary suspect in Waldorf on Saturday.


According to the Charles County Sheriff's office, a man reported that he was doing plumbing work at a house under renovation in the 13000 block of Poplar Hill Road on Saturday. The plumber noticed that the side door to the house had been kicked open. He went inside and saw a man standing there. The plumber then confronted the man, who started walking outside.

The plumber then used his cell phone to take photos of the man and then he call called 911.

Officers responded at approximately 2:15 p.m.and set up a perimeter.

With the assistance of K-9 teams, they found the suspect in a wooded area. The took 32-year-old Tarique Jarrod Day of Capitol Heights into custody without incident, police said.

Day's car was found parked on Forest View Drive a short distance away.

Day is charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree burglary, destruction of property and trespassing.
