WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - Campus police alerted the American University community about groping incidents near campus.

There have been four incidents since September 24th. All of them happened along Massachusetts Avenue between the Berkshire Apartments and the University.

Leah Stonefeld, a student at American, says "It's definitely scary when something is out there and happening more frequently than you would like."

The four women told police they were groped by a man in a hooded sweatshirt -- each incident was either in the early morning or late evening.

In each case, campus police say the suspect grabbed the woman's backside and then ran away. In one case, the suspect also grabbed the women's chest.

Jenna Rieling's roommate was one of the victims. She says her roommate "was definitely a little startled."

While some like Rebekah Israel say this will force them to be more cautious. "It's just something we have to do as women, we have to walk in groups, we have to protect ourselves."

Another student, Abbey Walsh, says she is unfazed. "I live on this street, I walk to school two times a day, I don't feel any less safe."

Police describe the man involved as a white male between 20 and 30 years old --- his height between 5'7 and 5'10.

They are still looking into these incidents.
