LANDOVER, Md. (WUSA) - Giant Food announced Monday that it has removed from its shelves ready-to-eat bags of Dale & Thomas Indiana white cheddar popcorn after a recall by Dale & Thomas due to the possibility of contamination
by listeria monocytogenes.

The following product, with all sell by dates, is included in this recall:

• Dale & Thomas natural salty snacks Indiana white cheddar popcorn, UPC 84357100078, 9 oz.

No illnesses have been reported to date. Customers who have bought the product should throw away unused portions and bring their receipt to Giant a full refund.

Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, which is an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis.

Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.
