MECHANICSVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -- St. Mary's County authorities say they have arrested a 21-year-old Charlotte Hall, Md. man in a 7-Eleven store robbery that started when the robber threw hot coffee on an employee and jumped the counter.

The robbery happened on September 16 at approximately 1:20 a.m. in Mechanicsville, Md. According to authorities, a man came into the store and got a cup of coffee before going to the counter to apparently pay for the drink. As the clerk opened the register, the man reportedly threw the cup of coffee on the clerk and then jumped over the counter.

Authorities say the man and the clerk struggled and at some point the man took out a hammer and threatened the clerk.

He was able to get cash from the register and flee from the store.

On September 21, detectives located Daniel W. Kamperin and charged him with robbery with a dangerous weapon and second degree assault. He was put in jail but later released after posting a $5,000 bond.
