WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - There is chaos and destruction and some outlandish Mitt Romney video out there tonight but Washington is all abuzz about the birth of that new panda cub.
So why do we care so much?
My first clue came November 28th, 1999, the day Hsing-Hsing the Panda died at the National Zoo. Frankly, at the time, I thought people went just a little nuts. But DC was literally heartsick.
And it wasn't just here. The zoo got sympathy cards from all over the country. Now let's be real
Nobody gives a poot when Zeke the Zebra kicks off...or when Mrs. Zeke pops out a Zekey junior. So what's the deal with the all Panda love?
Well, experts suggest its partly that they remind us of us, the way they sit and handle food. Plus they're big and powerful, but kinda cuddly and shy
...and awww...aren't they just adorable? Yeah.
But its the whole endangered species-can't breed in captivity thing that's really intriguing. Will the pandas have sex? Is the panda pregnant? Ohh, the suspense!! The drama!
But for DC the Pandas are like a favorite old love story...just because you've heard it a bunch of times doesn't mean its getting old, and here comes the good part.
