WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Blind Xpress is recalling back about a half million vertical and horizontal window blinds.
A 2 year old Michigan girl died back in 2009 when she got caught in the loop of the adjustable cord.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, 120 children have strangled on window cord blinds in the U.S. since 1999. That is one child every single month.
Safety advocates say parents should try to seek out cordless window coverings.
But if you have blinds of any sort with cords in your home, you need to take action to protect your child.
You should never place an infant or child's bed next to a window that has a corded blind. It eliminates the child's access to the cord.
Check to se if your blinds have been recalled.
And, sign up with the CPSC to receive recall alerts.
One more important point. The hole in the weight at the bottom of the blind cord should be mounted to a wall to keep your child safe.
