SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA) -- A common skin condition is being tied to even more problems inside the body. A new study supports earlier research linking psoriasis to type-2 diabetes.

A Danish study shows people with psoriasiswere 56 percent more likely to develop diabetes than those who do not have the inflammatory disease.

The risk rises for more severe cases, most cases were for type 2 diabetes.

Amy Cole, M.D. of DermAssociates in Silver Spring says, "I'm really not surprised, we've learned years past that there is a link between psoriasis and cardiovascular disease."

The inflammation involved with psoriasis raises the danger of internal illness.

Psoriasis is a common skin condition, past studies revealed that patients have a higher risk of heart disease and stroke.
