ALEXANDRIA (WUSA) -- Virginia State Police say a driver has been charged with DUI-related manslaughter after one person was killed and three others were injured in a violent crash early Thursday morning.
Corinne Geller, spokeswoman for Virginia State Police, says the single-vehicle crash occurred around 2:41 a.m. on the ramp from southbound I-395 to westbound Route 236/Exit 3B.An Audi A8 ran off the road, spun around and struck a tree, say police. The vehicle was split in half with part of the car going over the guardrail and before coming to rest on another exit ramp.
The back seat passengers were ejected from the Audi. One of the backseat passengers, A. Tawab Ebadi of Chantilly died at the scene after CPR attempts by a trooper and an off-duty firefighter.
Two other passengers, 23-year-old Ilyas Qualandri of Springfield and 23-year-old Fernanda Ferrufino of Alexandria, were taken to the hospital. The 25-year-old driver, Javed Hussaini of Manassas, was also taken to the hospital. They all suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Hussaini is now charged with DUI-related manslaughter. State police say alcohol and speed were factors in the crash.
