Hyattsville, Md. (WUSA) -- A local officer is being hailed as a hero after quickly locating a 6-year-old girl who had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted in Prince George's County on Monday.
The man who kidnapped and sexually assaulted her was spotted with the child by Pfc. Fredys Castro Rivas shortly.
Charles Amofa, 25, is accused of kidnapping the girl and taking her to a park in Hyattsville at around 1:30 p.m., where he was found walking with the girl.
"It reminded me of my daughter, who is 3-years-old. She seemed desperate. The only thing coming out of her mouth was I want my daddy, I want my daddy," Castro Rivas said. He is being called a hero tonight after finding Amafo who was walking with the girl.
Castro Rivas had heard that the girl was abducted from a nearby shopping center and began searching the area after her father showed him a photo of her on his cellphone.
Amofa is also be accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl in Hyattsville on July 8.
He's being held, without bond in a Prince George's County Jail.
9News's Matt Jablow reports that the father of the 6-year-old said that his daughter is her usual energetic self but told him that "something had happened."
