WASHINGTON (WUSA) --This summer, we've all been finding different ways to get relief from the incredible heat. But if you're considering going out for a drink to cool off in D.C., don't even think about getting behind the wheel.

Kurt Erickson, President of the Washington Regional Alcohol Program, or WRAP, joined us Wednesday morning to talk about the new tough Drunk Driving Laws effective Wednesday in the District. Watch the interview with him above.

Here are some of the major changes:

First time offenders could now be jailed for 180 days and fined up to $1,000.

First time offenders with a blood alcohol content of point 2.0 or higher or repeat offenders, now have a mandatory jail sentence of at least 10 days.

The BAC limit for commercial drivers is now set at point .04.
