MILLERSVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -- Anne Arundel County police are looking for21-year-old James Arthur Zito after he allegedly stabbed his mother on Monday night.

According to police, at approximately 7:30 p.m. officers responded to the 700 block of Stacy Oak Way in Millersville for a report of family violence. Police found a 54-year-old female suffering from multiple stab wounds. Police say their preliminary investigation indicates Zito became violent for some reason and restrained two family members at the home before stabbing his mother multiple times in the upper body. He then fled on foot and was last seen headed toward Red Birch Road.

His mother was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Officers with assistance from K-9, Aviation and bloodhounds continue to search for Zito.

Police describe Zito as a white male, approximately 5'9" tall, 170 pounds with long, dark hair and a mustache. He was last seen wearing a red shirt and dark sweats. Police ask that if you see him to call 9-1-1.

Detectives have an arrest warrant charging Zito with first degree assault and related charges.
