ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) -- Virginia State Police say a driver is charged with making an improper lane change after a four-vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer on the Inner Loop just west of Van Dorn Street at approximately 8:14 a.m. Tuesday.
According to police, a Ford Fusion was traveling west when it went to switch to the left lane and collided with a box truck. The truck lost control and hit a tractor trailer that was carrying cucumbers. The tractor trailer, which was also carrying three children, ran off the left side of the road before hitting the Jersey wall. It hit the wall so hard it went back into the road and hit an SUV. The tractor trailer then overturned.
Cucumbers spilled from the trailer, which had ruptured, across the westbound lanes.
The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital, but the children who were in the tractor-trailer were not injured.
The driver of the Ford Fusion, Ammar Alshakarchi of Alexandria, suffered serious but non life threatening injures and was also taken to the hospital. He was charged with making an improper lane change.
The six people in the box truck and the SUV driver were not injured, say state police.
