EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) -- A head-on car crash in East Hampton has claimed the life of a Virginia man.

East Hampton Town Police say 51-year-old Douglas Foster Schneiderman of McLean, Va., died in the crash Sunday afternoon.

Police say a pickup truck driven by Brian K. Midgett Jr., of East Hampton, crossed into the oncoming lane of Route 114 and collided with Schneiderman's car.

Midgett was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition.

Schneiderman was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, Elisabeth, and 16-year-old daughter, Rachael, were taken to Southampton Hospital with serious injuries.

Police say both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. No charges have been filed.

Police are seeking to interview anyone who may have witnessed the crash, which happened at about 12:35 p.m. Sunday.
