LINTHICUM, Md. (WUSA) -- An active dutymember of the Air National Guard died after falling from a seventh floor balcony.

On Thursday, July 5th at about 1:00 a.m. officers responded to a call of an injured man who had fallen from the 7th floor balcony of the Embassy Suites Hotel at 1300 Concourse Drive, Linthicum, Md.

He was identified as a 26-year-old male who was staying at the hotel after returning to the United States from an overseas deployment.

Witnesses say they saw him climbing over the 7th floor balcony and hanging on to the railing. Moments later, he fell onto the ground level of the atrium lobby of the hotel.

The man suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is still ongoing. The exact cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of the State Medical Examiner.

The man's name and his home state Air National Guard affiliation are being withheld pending notification to family members.
