COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WUSA) -- Despite a source telling me otherwise, the new turf field at the University of Maryland will be green after all. The team sent out a press release Wednesday afternoon with this sketch design (above) of the new field.
After previously reporting the field was going to be black or pewter, I contacted the university several times to confirm the color change. On June 8th, I was told that a final decision on the color had not been made yet.
Nevertheless, I still think going green was the best option for the Terps. I was never a fan of the rumored black design and thought it would be a distraction to a team that is looking to rebound from 2-10 season. The color scheme would have been a decent recruiting tool, but I think the new jerseys Maryland debuted last season do enough as far as pushing the envelope is concerned.
And now that the field has officially been addressed, we can get back to focusing on the progress of the program.
