ST. INIGOES, Md. (WUSA) -- Tuesday, a male suffered severe burns to his back and had to be taken to the hospital after being assaulted on Point Lookout Road in St. Inigoes, Md., say authorities with the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say 23-year-old Joshua Joseph Yates and 48-year-old Charles Bryan Jones, both of St. Inigoes, were involved in a verbal dispute with the victim. That dispute escalated into physical assault, in which Yates knocked the victim into a campfire and held him down while Jones kicked the victim.

The two men fled the scene before deputies arrived at the scene, but were both later found and arrested. Yates and Jones are charged with first and second degree assault.

Authorities say Yates was also served with two outstanding District Court bench warrants for theft and destruction of property. Jones was also served with a criminal summon for violating the conditions of a protective order.

Yates and Jones are currently being held without bond in the St. Mary's County Detention Center.
