WASHINGTON (WUSA) --If you live, work, or drive near 9th and U Streets in Northwest Washington, get ready to share that space with construction equipment. A massive facelift project for the historic U Street corridor is scheduled to start Monday.
DDOT plans to widen sidewalks, upgrade streets and intersections, and improve the landscapealong 0.4 miles of U Street, NW between 9th and 14th Streets. The work will be done Monday through Saturday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., say DDOT officials. There may also be some construction work on Sunday and overnight.
DDOT says at least one lane of traffic will be open in each direction at all times during the construction. People will still be able to get to Metro station and bus stops.
DDOT hopes to complete the project in spring 2013.
