Washington, D.C. (WUSA) Golden Girl Betty White is in Washington for a stop at the Smithsonian's National Zoological Park.

White, who's been on the board of the Los Angeles Zoo for 50 years, is renowned for her love of animals.

"If it's got a leg on each corner, I call it a friend," White told an adoring audience at the Lisner Auditorium Thursday night.

White has authored a new book out, "Betty and Friends: My Life at the Zoo." The book features of photos from her years of work on behalf of zoos an endangered animals.

White will be enjoying a private tour of the National Zoo from 9 to noon Friday. A visit to the Panda exhibit is tops on her list.
