WASHINGTON,D.C. (WUSA) - This week, health officials announced violations so serious, they ordered establishments closed in the District, Montgomery, Prince George', and Fairfax Counties until the food risks were fixed.

At Merry's Kitchen Carryout on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE, inspectors cited gross unsanitary conditions and a heavy infestation of vermin, reporting a dirty commode, unclean food-contact surfaces, a dead mouse in grease, and mouse feces on the floor.

When 9 Wants to Know went to the restaurant, we found an empty bottle of high alcohol wine at the order window, graffiti on the walls, and trash on the floor.

The manager wasn't there and didn't respond to our request for comment.

In Prince George's County, at a Wendy's, inspectors report walking in on a sewage overflow during a routine inspection and ordering a closure at the Annapolis Road store in Lanham.

In Montgomery County, severe insect infestation is what inspectors cite for closing Little Far East II on Ridge Road in Damascus.

In Fairfax County inspectors closed Moby Dick House of Kabob at Kingstowne Towne Center in Kingstown and Minerva Indian Cuisine on Centreville Road in Herndon reporting no refrigeration at both places.

It's not just restaurants. Inspectors shut down the grocery operation inside a CVS at Georgia and New Hampshire Avenues Northwest. Officials cited the store for operating with no hot water in the bathroom.

"Pharmacy staff continued to have access to hot water," Mike DeAngelis, CVS Spokesman said. "It was only for three hours."

District officials also cited hot water in the closure of Hamilton Liquors on Georgia Ave Southeast and say they temporarily shutdown Circle 7 Express on Martin Luther King Junior Avenue Northwest because of the presence of vermin.

The suspensions occurred last week and all establishments passed re-inspections and have since reopened.

9 Wants to Know is also trying to identify the cleanest restaurants in the metro area. If you know of a restaurant that has been cited for no critical violations during its most recent inspection, let us know at
