WASHINGTON (WUSA) - President Barack Obama tells reporter Robin Roberts that he supports gay marriage.

President Obama is the first president to take that position.

"Up until now, I thought legal unions would have been enough," the President told Roberts.

Years ago, the President said he was"constantly evolving. I struggle with this," in a national media interview.

On Wednesday, he told Roberts: "I've just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married."
