WASHINGTON (WUSA) --Prince George's County recently kicked off its Spring Street Smart campaign...and for good reason. The county has had 81 pedestrian fatalities in the last five years, which is the highest number in the region.
In Monday's Extra Mile report, Major Pete Eliadis, Commander of the Special Operations Division, joined us to talk about the comprehensive pedestrian safety program. Watch the video to see what he had to share with us.
Notes about the pedestrian safety initiative:
- officers are targeting 10 locations
- patrol officers will be stationed at hot spots
- officers will give out educational material
- pedestrians will be fined for jaywalking
