WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) --- Police continue to investigate the murder of Heather Lynn McGuire and the suicide of PhilipJoseph Gilberti on Tuesday, March 13, 2012.

Before the murder-suicide in Montgomery County, McGuire told police shefeared for her life because of her partner, Gilberti.

The emerging story is one of domestic violence.

Everyday, an average ofthree women are killed by an intimate partner, according to Carolyn Washington, CEO of Sisters4Sisters, Inc., a national non-profit organization focusing on female empowerment and the fight against sexual and domestic violence.
