WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- DeMatha senioroffensive lineman Rico Webb died early Sunday morning at the age of 17.

The 6'7", 365lbWebb had signed a letter of intent to continue his football career at Alabama State in early February.

"Obviously the DeMatha community is in shock right now because something like this was so unexpected," Stags head football coach Elijah Brooks told our sports anchor Dave Owens. "He was a great kid. Everyone is distraught."

Webb was reportedly experiencing chest pains Saturday evening and was taken to Howard County General Hospital. His cause of death is yet to be determined.

A prayer service has been scheduledfor 8:30 a.m. at DeMatha Catholic High School on Monday morning.

Webb was honored Sunday evening at the DeMatha-Gonzaga basketball game with a moment of silence before tip-off. The Stags' student section chanted "We love Rico" throughout the game.
