WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Wednesday night the Global Down Syndrome Foundation is hosting the Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show. WUSA9's Lesli Foster is a part of the program, escorting models down the runway.

Michelle Whittenk, the executive director of the Global Down Syndrome Foundation, and model Frank Stevens of Fairfax talked to us about the show on Wednesday morning. Frank is an advocate for those with Down syndrome, an actor, and even a playwright.

Eighteen fashion savvy models with Down syndrome will star in the fundraiser with celebrities and members of Congress at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel. Five hundred people are expected to attend.

The gala and fashion show is designed to raise funds for and awareness about the chromosomal disorder affecting one in 691 babies.

This year, the foundation will honor D.C. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton with the Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Award for her support of people with Down syndrome. Congresswoman Norton is the mother of Katherine, one of the models.

Redskins cheerleaders, DeOndra Dixon, Jamie Foxx's sister who has Down syndrome, and Leona Lewis will also be at the event.

It's not too late to buy tickets. Visit globaldownsyndrome.org to get your tickets.
