WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- April 30 is National Honesty Day and according to a social experiment that was done by Honest Tea, D.C. is the least honest city in the experiment.
Honest Tea set up unmanned kiosks with drinks throughout the country and asked people to pay $1 on the honor system. It turns out only 80 percent of people who stopped to get a drink paid. The national average is at 92 percent.
Honolulu and Birmingham, Alabama took the prize for being the most honest places with 100 percent.
A few fun facts, according to Honest Tea:
- Women are more honest than men with 95 percent to 91 percent.
- People with longer hair tend to be more honest with 94 percent.
- People with medium length hair came out at 93 percent.
- People with short hair came out at 91 percent.
The experiment also showed that people in groups are usually more honest with 96 percent compared to a 91 percent when they are on their own.
