Hobart, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) - Spanish qualifier Garbine Muguruza captured her first WTA title with a 6-4, 6-0 win over seventh-seeded Czech Klara Zakopalova in the final of the Hobart International.
The turning point of the match came in the 10th game when Muguruza secured a crucial break point with a 5-4 lead. Muguruza, in her first career final, cruised in the second set to finish off the match which lasted just 70 minutes.
"I didn't expect to win a lot of matches in the second tournament of the year, but I knew that I'd just worked so hard before," Muguruza said. "When I was at home I was thinking to myself, 'If I go to the tournament I'm going to fight so much,' and that's what I did. I was like a big bull out there."
Zakopalova topped Muguruza in their only previous career meeting in Seoul in 2012.
Muguruza took home $43,000 with the win.
