Buenos Aires, Argentina (Sports Network) - Top-seeded and defending champion
David Ferrer captured his second consecutive title at Buenos Aires by taking
out Stanislas Wawrinka in three sets at the clay-court final of the Copa Claro
tennis event on Sunday.
The world No. 4 Spaniard had a second set hiccup before breezing through the
final set in taking a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 decision over the third-seeded Wawrinka.
In 10 all-time matchups against the native of Switzerland, Ferrer has been
victorious in seven of the meetings.
With the victory, Ferrer pocketed $84,550 and captured the 20th singles title
of his career and his second of the year. The 30-year-old was victorious in
Auckland last month.
Ferrer now has 10 victories in title matches on clay courts, moving him into a
third place tie with Roger Federer and Nikolay Davydenko for most among active
players.
For Wawrinka, who fell to 3-7 in championship events, it was his first ATP
World Tour final appearance since winning Chennai in January 2011.
